MTplex refers to a genetically closely related group of Mycobacterium species that may cause tuberculosis. At present, the group includes: M. tuberculosis, M. africanum, M.bovis and M.bovis BCG, M. microti, M. canettii, M.pinnipedii. Although the newly described species, M. mungi, has not yet been validated, it has been reported to contain the genetic element specific to this complex, which has been used as the target in the present test.
